Still Mailing Them In For the Time Being...

Happy Patriot's Day. An Acoustic and Non-Acoustic Offering

Patriot's Day is sort of a unique Massachusetts/Maine Holiday. Paul Revere's Ride, "One if by Land, Two if by Sea", first blood at Lexington Green, "The Shot Heard Round the World" at the Old North Bridge in Concord, and the Boston Marathon.

Still too busy to put up much of substance right now, so here are just a couple of musical offerings, completely unrelated to the holiday.

Los Lonely Boys, Diamonds

I love that band.

Velvet Revolver, The Last Fight

Scott Weiland is leaving Velvet Revolver and reviving the Stone Temple Pilots. As far as personalities go, I've never been much of a fan of Weiland or of Slash, but I have to admit that Weiland does have a great voice, and I liked this song.

I'd never heard of Patriot's Day until after I was with the Hoopy Frood. Then again I'd never heard of people getting days off of school for hurricanes, either.

Hi Jen,

Years ago I used to be responsible for maintaining an electric trouble order taking system on the mainframe. I used to have to work hurricanes. The first time, it was really exciting. After that, I always prayed for a miss.

Hopefully, y'all guys in Seattle won't ever have to work a volcano.

I've never seen a hurricane. I'm trying to compare it to a supercell (closest storm system I've experienced), but I've been told it's different and not as exciting, so long as it isn't a huge hurricane.

Mt. Rainier is the most likely culprit, and if it were to blow, Tacoma and Federal Way would be a mess, but we're far enough north (and high enough) that it wouldn't do much. (I've checked the pyroclastic flow maps for dissertation defense planning. I'll be damned if I let a volcano get in my way.) When Mt. St. Helens exploded in 1980, I've been told Seattle didn't even get so much as a dust mote from it. (The winds go the opposite way.)

Now every time I've received a sacrament, there's been some natural disaster. Expect an earthquake or hurricane, depending on which coast it happens on.

I've never heard of Patriot's Day either. Someday I have to read up on early American history - all I know about it now, I learned from the movie National Treasure :)

I hope things are going well house-wise.

Meh. Could be better. We chose just about the worst time to do this, but in a lot of ways, we're in a good position.

Patriot's Day? You sure that's not some kind of weird football holiday? I've been in the NY-RI area now, off and on, for 10 years, and I had never heard of it.
