Not that I'm asking any of you guys to take any quizzes. I'll lay some of my cards on the table, but I'm not asking anyone else to do so if they don't feel like it.
I took a few quizzes lately, and even managed to surprise myself a little bit...
Beliefnet: What Kind of Catholic Are You?
You scored 71, (moderately traditional) on a scale of 0 to 100. Here's how to interpret your score:
0 - 25 : You are a Centering Prayer (very progressive) Catholic.
More about you.
26 - 50 : You are an Ignatian Exercises (moderately progressive) Catholic.
More about you.
51 - 75: You are a Divine Office (moderately traditional) Catholic.
More about you.
76 - 100: You are a Daily Rosary (very traditional) Catholic.
More about you.
I guess that's about right, in very general terms. I was sort of wondering if I would come down as Ignatian, as I suspect a few of my friends here are. Actually, I don't think this quiz was crafted too well. It was too simplistic. That's why I took the next one at Quiz Farm instead of Belief-O-Matic.
What's your theological worldview?
created with QuizFarm.com
You scored as Roman Catholic. You are Roman Catholic. Church tradition and ecclesial authority are hugely important, and the most important part of worship for you is mass. As the Mother of God, Mary is important in your theology, and as the communion of saints includes the living and the dead, you can also ask the saints to intercede for you.

Another Quiz Farm: Which theologian are you?
You scored as Friedrich Schleiermacher. You seek to make inner feeling and awareness of God the centre of your theology, which is the foundation of liberalism. Unfortunately, atheists are quick to accuse you of simply projecting humanity onto 'God' and liberalism never really recovers.

Friedrich Schleiermacher, eh? I never heard of the guy.
Finally, a political one, on the 2008 presidential candidates.

On the "what kind of Catholic are you" quiz, I got 43. which =
You are an Ignatian Exercises (moderately progressive) Catholic. It went on to say that I loved the movie The Mission ... uncanny! :-)
Ignatian! How happily-named and appropriate for you. :-) I had a feeling that was where you were going to be placed.
I liked The Mission too, even if Robert DeNiro made no effort to disguise his Bronx accent.
You laughed? Most certainly you laughed....
Jeremy Irons, of course, was superb. The music was great too.
Kucinich 90%! You're such a lefty, Jeff!
I got a very close result to yours. Also Obama 100%. Strangely, I only got 70% for Edwards, who I probably favor right now. I went to the "information" section, and they just seemed not to have looked up his positions on a lot of issues.
I think I tried the "what king of Catholic are you" quiz once and my answers were so contradictory that the computer blew up.
Kucinich 90%! You're such a lefty, Jeff!
Haha. Quite the Commie-symp, eh?
"The copper bosses killed you, Joe,
They shot you, Joe," says I.
"Takes more than guns to kill a man,"
Says Joe, "I didn't die,"
Says Joe, "I didn't die."
My parents had a horse named Joe Hill.
Well, I surprised myself and got 55 on the What kind of Catholic are you? Which means I'm a You Divine Office (moderately traditional) Catholic. Probably because I like stained glass and light candles. Of course, some of the questions didn't have answers I wanted to give, but whatever.
The Theological Worldview: I'm "Emergent/Postmodern." that's what happens when you read Frederick Jameson, I guess, though I actually couldn't finish his book. "You feel alienated from older forms of church, you don't think they connect to modern culture very well." That's not really true, and I don't know how they came up with that from my answers.
"No one knows the whole truth about God, and we have much to learn from each other, and so learning takes place in dialogue." That I do believe.
"Evangelism should take place in relationships rather than through crusades and altar-calls. People are interested in spirituality and want to ask questions, so the church should help them to do this." Yeah, okay.
Emergent/Postmodern: 86%
Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan: 82%
Modern Liberal: 57%
Classical Liberal: 57%
Neo orthodox: 50%
Roman Catholic: 46%
Charismatic/Pentecostal: 36%
Reformed Evangelical: 32%
Fundamentalist: 29%
They forgot Texas Anarchist French-film-loving Poet who reads Trungpa Rinpoche and loves jazz: 93%
I didn't do the Theologian thing. But, Jeff, come on, I can't believe you don't know who Schleiermacher is. He's that really famous race car driver from Germany or Switzerland. Get with it!
The 2008 Presidential quiz is rigged and I left a comment telling them so. I also got 100% for Obama. And Hagel was way down on the list, even though I gave high priority to the Iraq questions. And, of course, it includes a lot of people who aren't even candidates.
So, Jeff, I don't think you should put much credence in getting Obama 100%. On the other hand, though he is pro-choice, he has said he wants to find ways "to reduce the number of women who felt the need to have abortions in the first place." And he voted YES to $100 million "for the prevention of unintended pregnancies. A YES vote would expand access to preventive health care services that reduce unintended pregnancy (including teen pregnancy), reduce the number of abortions..." I think he would at least be willing to work with pro-life people to find some kind of middle ground. I find that much more refreshing than the ongoing dualistic battle that both parties use to manipulate their supporters.
Hi William,
Interesting results you have there. 29% fundamentalist? You fire-breather. Well, that just goes to show they can take the boy out of Texas, but they can’t take Texas out of…
I can't believe you don't know who Schleiermacher is. He's that really famous race car driver from Germany or Switzerland. Get with it!
No, no… You’re thinking of Niki Lauda… Actually, I’m just saying that because I can spell Niki Lauda without having to do a cut-n-paste. No, Schleiermacher was that Ohio State quarterback with the gambling problem, wasn’t he? The one who went on to throw games with the Colts?
Even after I read the whole wiki article about Friedrich Daniel Ernst Schleiermacher, I still didn’t understand anything about him.
I am still recoiling in shock and horror that I was a whopping 20% Jonathan Edwards. Unless of course, thay are talking about the Honky-Tonk Stardust Cowboy.
Yes, I’m convinced that the SmartSelect survey is rigged. I think Tom DeLay could fill it out and it would still come up 100% Obama. The fix is in, sort of like the 2005 Papal Conclave.
I appreciate your remarks about Obama sincerely wanting to reach out on that issue. I think that’s true.
