Molly Ivins and Ann Richards represented, in my mind at least, a certain kind of Texas woman: Intelligent, funny, classy, strong (probably from growing up on a farm) and down-to-earth. Genuine Texas ladies. For some reason, they both remind me of my great aunt, as well as some other older women I knew when I was growing up. Their likes are disappearing.
I've run into some of those tough Texas women in my dealings for the company I work for (and you know who they are). There was one in particular when I just started out... Barbara Jean... Sweet and full of all those genteel southern manners, but tough as a crocodile when she needed to be.
Actually, I've seen a lot of funny interactions between Texas managers and folks up here. The tough Texas style doesn't always play well up here because Texans and New Englanders both have a tendency to think that they already know everything.
